Jio Platforms Limited
1. Overview
Jio Platforms Limited ("JPL") was incorporated on November 15, 2019 (Ahmedabad, Gujarat) and is promoted by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), which holds 66.43% pre-Issue. JPL describes itself as a technology platform built on proprietary digital technology, with pan-India digital connectivity as the foundational layer. The licensed operating entity, its material subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), commenced operations in 2016 and served 533.3 million customers as of June 30, 2026.
The business sits in the digital connectivity and digital services sector (mobile broadband, fixed broadband, enterprise connectivity, and bundled digital applications). Scale indicators as of June 30, 2026:
- 533.3 million total customers, including 503.6 million mobile broadband customers
- 284.9 million 5G customers — the third-largest 5G base globally
- 28.6 million fixed broadband customers (JioFiber + JioAirFiber), of which JioAirFiber is ~14.0 million — the largest fixed-wireless base in India
- 49.78% share of wireless broadband customers; ~60% of India's wireless data traffic in FY26; ~1.4x the 4G+5G subscribers of the second-largest operator (Analysys Mason Report)
- >99% population coverage for wireless broadband; fixed broadband covers ~98% of India's pin codes
- FY26 Revenue from Operations: ₹1,46,885 Cr; EBITDA: ₹76,255 Cr (51.91% margin); PAT: ₹30,049 Cr (20.46% margin)
JPL's pitch is that the traditional "telecom vs technology" distinction no longer applies: it owns a vertically integrated stack across network, devices, operating systems and applications, with 12,477 technology employees (~45% of the workforce) and 7,220 patent applications filed (1,043 granted). It is positioning itself as an AI-native digital services company, with its proprietary AI engine JioBrain embedded across network operations. Revenue remains overwhelmingly connectivity-driven; JPL operates as a single operating segment.
Competitively, JPL claims to be the only digital connectivity provider globally with an end-to-end proprietary 5G Standalone stack at nationwide scale (4G+5G combined core, devices, OSS/BSS), per the Analysys Mason Report. Spectrum holding of 26,800.8 MHz (average remaining life ~15.8 years) is the highest among Indian operators, with spectrum across 700 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz.
2. Business Model and Revenue Streams
